What is a provisional psychologist?

Pink Roses Blooming

A Provisional Psychologist is a practitioner who has completed extensive university training in psychology and is undertaking their final stage of supervised practice before becoming fully registered.

This stage is a formal and essential part of becoming a registered psychologist in Australia.

Training & Qualifications

Provisional Psychologists have:

  • Completed an accredited 4–6 years of university study in psychology

  • Undergone rigorous academic and practical training

  • Met national standards set by the Psychology Board of Australia

They are qualified to provide psychological support and interventions, while continuing to develop their skills under supervision.

As a Provisional Psychologist, I work under the guidance of board approved supervisors; these are experienced, fully registered psychologists.

This means:

  • Your care is supported by more than one professional perspective

  • Regular supervision ensures best practice and high-quality support

  • Your wellbeing and progress are continually prioritised

Working with a Provisional Psychologist can offer:

  • Thoughtful, up-to-date, evidence-based care

  • A collaborative and attentive approach

  • Access to support that is often more available and flexible
